Winter clean!

Sun Dec 6, 2009, 3:45 AM
Hi everyone,

having been a member since 2004, there are some submissions to my gallery that are ready for a clearout. Some old, some new! Hopefully I can sort out a huge backlog of photos on my computer and upload a few new ones.

If i can work out how to categorise my shots, i will do that too.

Cane Hill Update fresh from yesterdays scout: The only buildings still standing are Admin, Chapel, Water Tower, diesel storage tanks and some random ruins. In the past 2 weeks, both boiler chimneys have been felled and the final ward block to survive (Wren/Wesley) is reduced to rubble.

It's been a year!

Mon Aug 31, 2009, 6:59 AM
Hi everyone, it's been almost exactly a year since I have written a journal on here. Mainly because the previous one is still a subject that's very close to me. That said, I havn't JUST been focusing on the Hill. The last year has been full of adventures with the most recent one being an annual trip to mainland Europe with Jaff Fox and Havoc, which was full of pleasant surprises. Earlier in the year was an equally good Scottish trip with the same crew plus Lost and Kate.

Cane Hill Update fresh from todays scout: The only buildings still standing are Admin, Chapel, most of Wren/Wesley ward block, 1/3 of Shaftesbury/Salter, Nurses accomodation, Boiler chimneys (old and new), Water Tower, diesel storage tanks and some random ruins.

Cane Hill :(

Since June 2008 the building that first gave me the inspiration to find the beauty in abandoned and hidden away buildings has been in the hands of Squibbs demolition company. Since then they have been swiftly and very systematically removing it forever.

This has provided a chance to see it in a new light - it's thriving with activity once again - for the first time since 1992. It was never going to be there forever and lately i have been making the most of this with a couple of return visits.

It's sad to see it go but also it has been fascinating to see some of the less documented nooks and crannies of the former asylum. Not only have some wards, rooms and equipment been uncovered but lets just say i'm a fan of the 'birds eye view'!

Following this journal keep an eye out for some new deviations that sum up how progress is being made and time has been limited on this Grand victorian building with a long and varied history.

Hope you are all well.

Lens Compromise

Tue Apr 15, 2008, 1:58 PM
After learning to be patient and very selective using my old 50mm lens, i have bought a cheap 28-80mm auto/manual focus lens to use while the 18-70 is STILL in the repairers - bet its still there in a month ;). Just glad to have a bit more flexibility and can finally use the light meter again.

Hope everyone is well.

Today i am without my main camera lens (18-70mm) as on Friday, the focus mechanism started grinding. It is in for repair under insurance but i will be without it for about 2 months - meanwhile using a 50mm manual focus lens which is taking some getting used to!!!
